On behalf of the General Thomas F. Meagher Division, President Dennis O’Reilly presented a check in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) to Kathleen Wilson, Executive Director of Mary’s Shelter, on August 28, 2024.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) has a long history of pro-life support. Its Pro Life Committee works to provide news, education and advocacy for life from conception until natural death according to the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Bible. Each year, the AOH is among the thousands of participants in the National March for Life and related events in Washington, DC. In addition, the Order publishes a monthly newsletter that reports on AOH involvement in pro-life activities the across the nation, and advises members of upcoming pro-life activities.
Mary’s Shelter provides housing and a Christ-centered program of guidance and support for women facing a crisis during pregnancy. Mary’s Shelter was founded in 2006 and has grown from a two-room apartment into a community of shared homes. Its program provides women and their children, both born and unborn, with housing for up to three years to further their education and/or secure a career, while also attending in-house parenting and life-skills classes. Each woman is blessed with a mentor who provides hands-on guidance, compassion and support. This foundation ensures women have the necessary time to work toward their goals and provide for their children, making the possibility of independent, stable living a reality. More than 400 women have participated in the Mary’s Shelter program, and the ripple effect of receiving unconditional love and support is beyond measure. This pro-life ministry, which is rooted in the teachings and profound love of Christ, seeks to offer hope and a chance for a brighter future for women who have made the beautiful choice of life.
The General Thomas F. Meagher Division of the AOH is pleased to be able to donate funds to this worthy cause. Kathleen Wilson remarked that our donation will meet an immediate need in renovating a recently acquired building that will enable Mary’s Shelter to offer additional rooms to expectant mothers and their children.
