The winning ticket for the 15th Annual Hibernian Trip for Two to Ireland raffle was drawn at the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day celebration hosted by Fredericksburg’s Colonial Tavern – Home to the Irish Brigade. DragonFyre provided inspiring Irish music and the Muggivan School of Irish Dance performed admirably. At 4PM, with great anticipation, the youngest Irish dancer, Raegan, picked the winner from among the 1200 tickets. The 2023 winners are Gene and Kate McKenna of Lake of the Woods, VA. Gene, a Hibernian for more than 50 years, and Kate are celebrating this windfall along with their 61st wedding anniversary. There can be only one winner, so we hope you’ll be in the mix again in 2024. As always, the General Meagher Division is grateful for the tremendous community support for our annual raffle.
Raffle proceeds combined with net proceeds from our annual golf tournament enable the division to support several local charities, provide annual scholastic awards, support summer Work Camps sponsored by four area Catholic parishes, and support organizations promoting Irish tradition in music, dance, and storytelling. During Irish American Heritage Month (March), displays and docents will be present at three area libraries. This is an Hibernian outreach activity designed to highlight Irish/Irish American history, tradition, and contributions to the evolution of the Unites States. Halfway to St. Patrick Day, Irish American Heritage Month, and our Annual Shamrock Charity Golf Classic are significant programs of the General Thomas F. Meagher Division outreach and fund-raising programs. Planning ahead, the 2024 Shamrock Charity Golf Classic is scheduled for May 13th at Lake of the Woods Country Club!
