Dr Damian Shiels is an archaeologist and historian. He is the author of two books on the Irish in the Civil War: The Irish in the American Civil War (The History Press, 2013) and The Forgotten Irish: Irish Emigrant Experiences in America (The History Press, 2016). Since 2010 he has run the Irish American Civil War website the largest repository on the internet of information on the Irish experience of the conflict.
